Marriage in the New Millennium. 1. Theology. | |
I was delighted to be invited to give two lectures at a marriage conference, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, in Sept. 2009. My visit was made possible through the kindness of my hosts, Lanse and Patience Hoskins, who were celebrating ten years of happy marriage. I was attracted to St. Paul's (see link) because it is a lesbian and gay affirming church where same-sex couples can, and do, take a full part in membership and are accepted there with gladness. In this first lecture I admit some of the difficulties about marriage within the Tradition itself (section 1): then outline the case for a whole-hearted, theological approach to marriage (section 2); then I make the case (section 3). the second lecture is about putting this theology of marriage into practice. |
