| I read this paper at a research seminar at Ripon College, Cuddesdon, Oxford, in January 2010. The audience was mainly students training for ordination, mostly in the Church of England. This is one of my recent essays on marriage. Section 1 examines textual, historical, theological, and social criticisms of marriage: section 2 replies to them: section 3 outlines three types of contemporary theologies of marriage; while section 4 develops one of these in some detail. |
