| This article began as a lecture at the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies in June 2006, and it was rapidly published in the Centre's journal, Transformation, in October. At the time I was working on my Theology and Families. I had been studying the teaching of Jesus about children in the synoptic Gospels, and I was feeling moved by Christ's obvious love for all children. Real tension had arisen in my mind between Christ's teaching about children and the treatment children get in the rest of the Bible. In Theology they are widely neglected, although the present decade has been that deficit to some extent made good. This article expresses and to some extent resolves that tension. |
